We have a new agreement between Student Health and Welfare and the UC-CHRISTUS Health Network. As a regular UC student (undergraduate, graduate, medical specialties and postgraduate), you will have access to benefits in face-to-face clinical care at the UC-CHRISTUS Health Network throughout the year, including February, even when the university is closed for academic recess. Students on their way to graduation and students on their way to graduation, with a maximum of 1 year since they enrolled in the last course, will also be able to access the benefits of the agreement. The automation of the voucher payment system, which will be done directly at the UC-CHRISTUS Health Network centers, will facilitate access to services and save you time. Just place your fingerprint when you pay your voucher! Specialty medical consultations are exclusively at the San Joaquin Medical Center. Also, some tests and procedures can be performed at all network centers, not only at the San Joaquin medical center or the hospital in Marcoleta.


1. Coverage in the area of PHYSICAL HEALTH

Starting with the new agreement with the UC-CHRISTUS Health Network, All regular UC students, students in the process of graduation or in the process of graduation (maximum 1 year of the last semester with enrolled courses) who have a health system with payment of vouchers (Fonasa or Isapre), will be able to access a series of benefits and coverage in clinical health care, specialty medical care at Centro Médico San Joaquín and laboratory tests in the different centers of the network.

Excluded from the benefits of this agreement are those UC students who are not affiliated to Fonasa or Isapre, or who have closed health insurances that do not issue bonds, such as Dipreca, Capredena or other insurance of the Armed Forces, since they already have full coverage and services in specific health establishments.

Coverage according to medical specialty

  • 100% coverage in face-to-face medical consultation for Family Medicine, Ophthalmology, Traumatology and Gynecology. Only at the San Joaquin Medical Center and with staff professionals (not medical students in specialty training). Remember that Family Medicine is not synonymous with General Medicine, so check carefully before requesting your appointment.
  • For the other medical specialties, UC students have 50% coverage. Also applies only at San Joaquin Medical Center.
  • Those who have Fonasa A, have 100% coverage in face-to-face medical consultation at the San Joaquin Medical Center only in the 4 medical specialties mentioned in point 1.

General emergency consultation and hospitalization

  • General emergency and hospitalization consultation at Hospital Marcoleta and emergency at Centro Médico San Joaquín. These consultations derived from urgency/emergency, for traumatic and non-traumatic events occurring during an academic activity and related to university life, will be co-payment 0.
  • The benefit does not cover tests and procedures, such as radiology, so these items must be paid separately.
  • Access to this benefit will be with a digital slip letterThe report will be issued exclusively by the UC campus nurses (if the situation occurs on campus and during working hours), or by the Director of Health and Student Welfare, if the event occurs outside the university or during non-business hours.

In case of “injury suffered by a student, due to or on the occasion of his/her studies, professional practice and also accidents on the direct route between his/her home and the place of study or practice”, the student shall can make use of the State School InsuranceThis program is active for all students in Chile as soon as they enroll.

  • Coverage is 100% for medical, surgical and dental care, hospitalization, drugs and pharmaceuticals, prostheses and orthopedic devices, physical rehabilitation and transportation expenses. This coverage applies exclusively in hospitals or public care centers.
  • The State School Insurance does not protect against self-injury or accidents occurring due to force majeure that are not related to studies or professional practice.
  • The report is made by the teacher, the treating physician, the injured person, the person representing the injured person or any other person with knowledge of the facts. Kinesiology, exams and procedures (discounts apply only for benefits with Fonasa coding)

  • Kinesiology: 10% discount on the co-payment for kinesiology care at Centro Médico San Joaquín, Centro de Especialidades Médicas, Centro Médico Bilbao, Centro Médico Irarrázabal and Centro Médico Alcántara.
  • Laboratory exams: 20% discount on the co-payment for laboratory exams in all sampling units of Red de Salud UC-CHRISTUS. PCR COVID-19 is excluded.
  • Imaging: 10% discount on the co-payment for imaging exams (X-rays, scans, MRI, endoscopy and others) at Centro Médico San Joaquín, Centro de Especialidades Médicas and Hospital Clínico Marcoleta.
  • Outpatient procedures: 10% discount on the co-payment for outpatient procedures at Centro Médico San Joaquín and Centro de Especialidades Médicas.

How do I request an appointment?

How to make an appointment

  • It is no longer necessary to make previous formalities in the offices of Health and Student Welfare UC.
  • If you need a medical consultation, all you have to do is make an appointment at the UC-CHRISTUS Health Network (via web or telephone).

What to do on the day of your medical appointment

  • On the day of your medical appointment, you must go to the corresponding center, show your identity card to prove that you are a UC student.
  • If you consult for Emergency, remember that you also have to present the letter of digital receipt issued by the nurses of the UC campus or by the Director of Health and Student Welfare of the UC.
  • You will have to pay your consultation voucher directly, by putting your fingerprint in the iMed system. The discount for being a UC student will be made automatically and will depend on the specialty (see point 1.).

2.- DENTAL HEALTH Coverage

As a result of the agreement between the university and the UC-CHRISTUS health network, if as a UC student you require dental care and choose to do it at the UC-CHRISTUS Health Network, you will have a15% discount on the list price for dental care at the San Joaquin Medical Center.

3.- MENTAL HEALTH coverage

In this area, coverage is lower. UC students have access to care with a psychiatrist from the UC-CHRISTUS network, at the UC San Joaquin Medical Center, as long as they are referred by a professional from UC Student Health and Welfare to follow treatment with a psychiatrist. In this case, the UC student has 100% coverage.

Requirements

In order to access the benefits of the new agreement with the UC-CHRISTUS Health Network, the student must comply with the following requirements.
  • Be a regular UC student, undergraduate, graduate (master or doctorate), medical specialties or postgraduate. The benefits are also available to students on their way to graduation (AVT) and on their way to graduation (AVG), up to one year after the last semester in which they enrolled in courses.
  • Have a health system that issues bonds, i.e. Fonasa or Isapre. If you are Chilean and are not affiliated to any of these systems, Salud y Bienestar Estudiantil will guide you so that you can complete the corresponding procedure and enroll in Fonasa.
Excluded from the benefits of this agreement are those students who are already affiliated to closed health systems, who belong to any branch of the Armed Forces (Capredena, Dipreca, Sisan and Sisfa), since they already have very complete services and coverage in specific establishments.
  • In the case of students who are not affiliated to Fonasa or Isapre, but who have the Metlife complementary insurance, the coverage and benefits will be what is strictly indicated in the insurance policy, which will be valid only until February 2023.
  • You no longer need to go to Student Health and Wellness before or after your medical visit for reimbursement. By logging in to the CHRISTUS UC Health Network and paying your voucher by placing your fingerprint, the discounts will be automatically reflected.
  • When you go to your medical appointment you must present your identity card to prove that you are a UC student.
  • In case of an emergency consultation, in addition to presenting your identity card, you must show the Letter of Guarantee that is issued by the UC campus nurses or the Director of Health and Student Welfare.

In order for the student to have access to the benefit, he/she must go to the Emergency Room in Marcoleta or to the Emergency Room of the Centro Médico UC-CHRISTUS San Joaquín and present a digital receipt letter. In case the situation occurs on university premises, and 5000 has been called, the letter will be delivered by the campus nurses; if the emergency occurred outside the institution and/or during non-working and academic hours, the letter will be handled by the Director of Student Health and Welfare.

Psychological attention is provided at the Health and Student Welfare offices and is free of charge for UC students. Psychiatric care is provided at the UC-CHRISTUS Health Network, at the San Joaquin Medical Center, and is free of charge. Is dental care provided at the student health facility or at the medical center?

If you are attended through the Dental Unit of Health and Student Welfare team, you must do it in the dependencies of that direction (University Hall, 3rd floor), at preferential prices for UC students.
